Default Troops of the Future May Ditch Night-Vision Goggles in Favor of Eye Injections

I just now heard about this slightly dated report on the TV news, but could not find a recently dated and related news item.

Nanoparticle injections could give warriors the power to see in the dark without the bulky goggles worn by today's troops during nighttime operations, according to an Arizona State University technology expert.
The process is explained in a paper published in February by researchers from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Mass., and the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei.
Nanoparticles that convert near infrared light into visible light were injected into the eyes of mice, allowing them to see in the dark, the researchers wrote in a summary of their work.

Sort of scary stuff. I suppose once this invasive eye procedure should ever become available to the general consumer public, we'll all be able to compete at night with our cats and hunt mice.

60 years ago, the U.S. military began an agency designed to come up with technology advances for the warfighter (soldier). This agency is known as DARPA - Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. You want to talk about "scary stuff," this agnecy works on 23rd Century advancements, like "tissue regeneration for soldiers who suffer blasts and burns to bone, skin, and nerves." Check out some of their ongoing projects here:

Some of this is the kind of stuff Hollywood Sci-Fi horror movies are made of. Where's Mulder and Skully from the X-Files when you need them.

Except the "Sci-Fi horror movies" stuff is make believe; this stuff is for real. And, your hard-earned tax dollars are paying for it. Lol.

My older son, who did a stint in the US Army, has verified a number of these for me — as well as other stories of military research that would chill your soul. And these are merely the ones that ordinary enlisted men are aware of. Imagine what lies secret at the deepest levels…
