Default Fund Local Meat Processing, Not Big Meat Bailouts!

    Organic Consumers Association
    June 17, 2020

Big Meat wants Congress to bail it out, even though the COVID-19 crisis has exposed how the industrial meat model—with its disease-ridden slaughterhouses and its unjust and monopolistic practices—is a total failure.
If you’d rather see Congress fund local meat processors who help build food security for your community, please ask Congress to support the Small Packer Overtime and Holiday Fee Relief for COVID-19 Act.
TAKE ACTION: Ask Congress to fund local meat processing, not Big Meat bailouts!

The link does not work for me. I believe you might want to refer to the Prime Act legislation that helps encourage and return to more local meat packing slaughter house operations. https://www.farmtoconsumer.org/blog/...to-local-meat/

That's odd. I had to go through a lot of contortions to open a page that didn't already have my name on it. But thank you for posting the farm to consumer link, grower. I wasn't aware of the PRIME act — and that's exactly what this country needs, particularly for people in my position. The only workaround for selling my sides of pork is to sell a half a pig to the customer on the hoof, so that customers are essentially processing their own meat — legally!

And here on the island, our abattoir has been broken down for so long that it has been many months since I have eaten any beef. I refuse to eat feedlot beef imported from the States. Recently our Governor has assured us that it will be fixed, soon come, soon come. So no cattle, pigs, goats, or sheep can be slaughtered until it gets fixed. At least we still have fresh fish.
