Default How Can You Naturally Increase Stomach Acid?

Having low levels of stomach acid can lead to a range of unpleasant side effects and leave the body vulnerable to infections. However, there are several things a person can try to help increase their stomach acid.

Stomach, or gastric, acid is a digestive fluid containing hydrochloric acid (HCL) and digestive enzymes. Stomach acid breaks down food and kills harmful bacteria.

I often see a recommendation for a tablespoon of ACV in a glass of water prior to a meal to increase stomach acid. That advice is not included here, which makes me wonder whether it actually works. Comments?

I may be wrong, but doesn't ACV and lemon juice alkalise the system once ingested? I'm confused!

That's my understanding too, but at what point does the pH conversion take place, in the stomach or somewhere in the below intestinal tract??? My speculation is that in the stomach, the ACV may become less acidic, say from a pH of 3 to a pH of 6.6, (not quite alkaline), thus helping to balance stomach acid problems. But further on down the intestines, the ACV may convert further to, say, 7.4 alkaline, and resolve other digestion and heath issues. That's my best guess???

I keep unadulterated baking powder, (correction, soda), on hand only as a last resort for stomach problems. What I consider first and foremost so as not to compromise my digestive stomach acid is ACV and the CALM magnesium powder. And also, I take a probiotic capsule first thing every morning on an empty stomach just before breakfast.

Grulla, do you do a lot of baking? Bread, cakes, cookies? Because I think what you keep on hand for stomach problems is baking soda, a whole different animal.

I don't do any baking. I keep baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) on hand for medicinal reasons or for cleaning corroded car battery cable connectors, etc. Is there some kind of distinction that I might not be aware of???

Why yes. You told us you were taking baking powder. There is a very definite distinction!

Baking powder has a weak acid added to baking soda, usually cream of tartar. We don't use the term baking soda in Oz, we call it by its name - bicarbonate of soda, or just bicarb.

A basic but ignored tip to progress stomach corrosive levels and assimilation is to altogether chew your nourishment. Absorption starts at your mouth. Hustling through your dinners can influence how your body digests your nourishment.

That's good advice, scilover. There used to be an old maxim about chewing your food x number of times. After all, the digestive process begins in the mouth.
