Default Does Sugar Make Kids Hyper?

Yes, that's right. "Sugar does not appear to affect behavior in children," said Dr. Mark Wolraich, chief of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center, who researched sugar's effect on children in the 1990s.
Instead, parent's expectations of so-called "sugar highs" appear to color the way they view their children's behavior, Wolraich said. It's easy to see why parents make the link: Sugar is often the main attraction at birthday parties, on Halloween and other occasions when children are likely to bounce off the walls.

I am prepared to debate this assertion. Back before we lost our big house to fire, we used to take in foster children. At one time we had siblings, an eight-year-old girl and her six-year-old half-brother. The social worker explained that the little boy had ADD, but it was under control so long as the child avoided sugar, and he understood that. He behaved like a normal eight-year-old boy is expected to do, but the social worker was 100% right. Twice during his year with us he went off the walls: once when he got into his sister's stash of Girl Scout cookies waiting for distribution… And once when he got into her Halloween basket.
So the short answer is yes, some children are hyper sensitive to the effects of sugar.
