Default Feds: Hangover is a Disease

    Alliance for Natural Health (ANH)
    SEPTEMBER 3, 2020

    CATEGORY: STOP CRONY HEALTHCARE

The latest power grab from an agency that is out of control. Action Alert! In a slew of warning letters, the FDA attacked companies selling “unapproved” cures for hangovers. In its explanation, the agency states that hangovers are included in the federal definition of disease, so products claiming to treat them must receive FDA approval. This is the latest attack from an agency that, for years, has worked to protect patented pharmaceutical drugs from competition from natural products. We must reform this crony health system that is keeping healthcare costs high—and more importantly, keeping us sick.

I haven't had one since college, but I'd still argue that a hangover does not fit any definition of disease I ever read!

It's always been my understanding that it's a high sugar content in the drink that causes hangovers, hence my liking the idea of DRY red wine or a LIGHT beer.

grulla, I've never heard that theory. If that's the case, why don't people who eat a lot of sweet stuff get hangovers? I'm sure there is more sugar in cakes and cookies than wine.

"Juieanne", I heard that anecdotal info a long time ago, but your question FINALLY made me research it, and here is one of a few websites that confirms sugar hangover, just from eating too much candy. So one would have to think how sweet(ened) alcoholic beverages could exacerbate a hangover.

I never had one since college, and yeah, I never considered it as a disease too.
