Protein bars are an easy way to ensure you get some filling protein, healthy fats and fiber all in one shot — whether you're enjoying them as a balanced snack or when you don’t have time to sit down for a meal.
But while many packaged protein bars available in grocery stores have fillers, too much sugar and other strange ingredients, these homemade Bone Broth Protein blueberry macadamia bars only contain real, recognizable foods.

Jeepers, why does there always have to be a catch to something that sounds so desirable? To make these bars requires macadamia nuts, which are themselves a budget buster… But I also have to spent $36 to buy his protein powder? Sounded like a great recipe but it's way above my pay grade!

Macadamia nuts are expensive, but, perhaps, other nuts could be substituted. As for protein powder, I've used several different types. You don't have to purchase his. I've used the recipe without nuts and a different protein powder.

I'd be grateful to know a protein powder you could recommend that's affordable and reasonable.

Unfortunately, organic, highly bioavailable protein powders are pretty expensive. As you know, organic is a bit more pricey than conventional. Also, the cheaper powders tend to be plant-based, derived from soy, rice, pea, etc. Not to mention that most soybeans grown in U.S. are genetically modified. I read a 2018 study that concluded most conventional protein powders contained far too many heavy metals, artificial sweeteners, and unhealthy chemicals. So, when it comes to protein powders, I choose animal-based, organic, whey protein over the cheaper stuff. The bone broth protein powder used in this recipe was made from pastured, organic chickens. That's why it was $36.
