Default Covid: chemicals found in everyday products could hinder vaccine

Researchers worry PFAS, commonly found in the bodies of Americans, will reduce the immunization’s effectiveness
The successful uptake of any vaccine for Covid-19, a crucial step in returning a sense of normalcy after a year ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic, could be hindered by widespread contamination from a range of chemicals used in everyday products.

Small amounts of per- and polyfluoroalkyl (or PFAS) chemicals are commonly found in the bodies of people in the US, as well as several other countries. These man-made chemicals, used in everything from non-stick pans to waterproof clothes to pizza boxes, have been linked to an elevated risk of liver damage, decreased fertility and even cancer.

I was a bit alarmed by the apparent universal presence of PFAS in everything from Teflon to cosmetics, so I went on a bit of a search to see exactly where they were found. I can't assume that I am 100% free of contamination since they seem to be in practically everything. On the other hand, I don't have everything; I don't think I have anything. I don't order fast food and I might get a takeout pizza once every five years. I don't cook on Teflon, and the one rain jacket I own is quite possibly older than I am. The only things I put on my skin are aloe vera, coconut oil and a healing comfrey salve that I make, also with a coconut oil base. No, I don't even use sunblock. I think that compared to the majority of the US population, I can feel comfortable inside my skin.
