Summary of Recent Changes Update as of May 13, 2021

Update that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.

Update that fully vaccinated people can refrain from testing following a known exposure unless they are residents or employees of a correctional or detention facility or a homeless shelter.

As with vaccines in general, the question that screams to me is, if the vaccines are effective, why is it necessary for the unvaccinated to mask? After all...

1. If Tom chooses not to get vaccinated, and also chooses not to mask, he is consciously taking that risk. It's his decision.
2. If vax works, he's not putting vaxxed people at risk.
3. If masks work, he's not putting at risk anyone who chooses to mask.
4. Therefore, the only people he's putting at risk are those who, like hypothetical Tom, choose (by not vaxxing and/or not masking) to take that risk. It's their choice.

It makes no sense that unvaccinated people 'must' still wear masks.

I agree that it is a personal choice, but 1. Not everyone is vaxxed yet, and 2, it doesn't appear to stop the spread. I'm confused about what it actually does do!

We got through the worst of Covid without masks, but there was a lot of emphasis on handwashing and social distancing. Not much mention of washing hands when returning home these days.

Every responsible article I have read claims that the vaccine will not prevent anyone from catching COVID-19. However, the symptoms will not be as severe, and if hospitalization is necessary, the duration will be shorter. This means that if I choose not to mask, I could actually catch the virus from a vaccinated person who has caught it themselves or is shedding.

What Islander said. As well, some people who have a propensity toward certain auto immune conditions will experience a paradoxical reaction to having been vaccinated, whereby their symptoms if they get the virus will be more severe and long lasting than if they had not been vaccinated. This is not a one size fits all type of situation. As for myself, I shall continue to wear a mask when amongst people, unless we all are in the open air, such as at the beach.
