Default The Right Way To Use Old Coffee In Your Garden

Adele Kellett started using old coffee grounds in her garden, before running into a problem.
"I was taking home one bucket weekly [from work]. I read in an article to do it," she says.
"I put it around blueberries as mulch. I was very proud of myself."
Within a couple of months one of Adele's prized blueberry bushes had died, and she would later lose three more in suspiciously similar circumstances.
A fellow gardener in a permaculture group warned her that she'd killed her tomatoes in a similar way.
Using coffee grounds to improve soil is common advice for home gardeners. Yet research shows that the results can be a mixed bag.

Thanks for finding this, Julieanne. I've been tossing the grounds from my French press on the shrubs that surround my deck. Guess I'll have to find a different place to put them!
