    Default Potato Peel for Burns

This is one of those old wives tales that works.

Last night a piece of wood I was loading into our wood burning stove caught on another piece of wood. The sudden jarring forced my arm back against the edge of the door of the stove. Anyone who has used a wood burning stove will now how hot they get, even a iron is no match for the heat they can produce. It was only a small area of my arm that made a very momentary contact but that was enough to burn throught to the flesh.

I immediately peeled a piece of skin of a potato and placed the moist side against the burn. I taped this piece of peel in place and left it there over night. This morning the flesh that was exposed is hardened over, there is no redness and it is not in the slightest bit sore as you would expect with a deep burn like this. At the time it happened the peel took the intense sting out of the burn almost immediately.

In my experience, forget about the cold running water when you get a burn - head for the raw potato pot.

I am glad you are recovering so well-and thanks for the tip!
Do you change the peel every few hours or use just the one?

I put one piece on immediately and then taped a fresh piece over the burn when I went to bed about half an hour later.

Aaltrude, did you have an aloe vera plant in the house but choose not to use it?

I don't always have potatoes in the house but I have 2 aloe veras!

I use aloe and Manuka Honey for burns. But it is always nice to have an option say if I'm away from home might be easier to find a potato peel.

I'll vouch for this one - I'm always burning myself on the oven, being one of the clumsiest people in the world, and potato peel works every time. And isn't it so soothing, Aaltrude?! Cools it in a flash.

I have found that immediate EFT helps the pain and redness immensely when I burn myself. The burns are usually mild but frequent and painful as I am rather klutzy in the kitchen (and everywhere else).

From the moment you put it on the burn, the sting disappears as if magic.
I have never had any success growing Aloe vera but as far as burns are concerned, I think "Why do I need it" when potato peel works so well and is usually easy to make sure there is some on hand.
