Default Fight Aging With These Anti-Aging Foods

By Dr. Kenneth Woliner on 07/23/2011

A consumer science magazine recently ran an article about a scientist who’s searching for anti-aging substances. The anti-aging “breakthrough” in this article may sound familiar to you. Because I wrote to you about it well over a year ago.

It’s telomeres – the little caps on the end of your chromosomes that control how many times your cells can divide before they die. Longer-lived cells should help fight the signs of aging – keeping you looking and feeling younger.

The researcher in this article is searching for substances to extend the working life of telomeres. But I have good news. You don’t have to wait for him to finish his research. Or spend a fortune for his product – when and if he develops one. Nature has already provided you with the tools you need to fight the effects of aging.

"The mineral selenium – found in shrimp, crab, salmon and pork – promotes slower shortening of telomeres in test-tube studies."
I wonder why they didn't mention Brazil nuts.

Good point. I got a moldy one the other day, and now I know what Aaltrude is talking about!

I won't buy them anymore because the last 3 or 4 times I did, I returned them due to mold. So, it's been at least 2 years since I bought Brazil nuts. So, guess I'll stick to a selenium supplement, lol. I'm doing everything this article mentions...

I haven't been finding many mouldy ones recently yet at one point it felt like I was spitting out every third one for this reason. Selenium is an essential nutrient for thyroid function and also has been shown to have anti cancer pr0perties. It is well known though that too much selenium is toxic. I guess as with a lot foods, eat selenium containing foods in moderation.

Well, I live in a low selenium area and when I've checked areas where some of the produce I get is grown, they are not listed as high. I take 100mcg/day.

I'm giving up on Brazil nuts.

I never SEE any mold, but i think at least 50% (and i think sometimes it runs even 90%) of the ones i buy taste moldy. Even the expensive organic and refrigerated nuts seem to be a problem.

I just bought a selenium supplement.
