(NaturalNews) Switching to a natural foods diet sometimes means saying goodbye to some of your favorite recipes because they call for store-bought ingredients (e.g., bouillon) that are full of hidden MSG and other health-depleting additives. However, if you are dedicated enough and willing to experiment a little, it is often possible to find homemade equivalents for such items that will serve your purpose just fine. For example, following are homemade versions of 4 widely-used seasoning mixes, all of which can be prepared ahead of time for added convenience.

It was in today's letter, arrived mid-morning. I always skim it just in case.

Interesting, but I don't know what onion and garlic granules are. I'd still have to substitute even with these recipes, because of these granules and the onion and red pepper flakes. Onions and garlic I can do, of course, but the idea here with all but the last is to have it on hand dried and ready to use. But it's a good idea of the ingredients and ratios. Of course, I haven't used those other products in so long anyway, that I don't miss them! On the other hand, doing my own would make for some variety.

I have to smirk at so many so-called 'recipes' where so many of the ingredients are already prepared--canned soup, onion soup mix, etc.

Agreed, Pattypans! I have real onions, real garlic etc. so I'd have to buy the processed product to avoid using another processed product! Still, I thought some of those were helpful, especially the buillion idea.

I have often dehydrated garlic and onions and made my own powders. I do it regularly with onions; do garlic when I can get a decent quantity. I prefer fresh but I also like the idea of having some of these handy. I keep a pint jar of chili powder handy. I really like the bouillon idea too.
